Student Representative

Outgoing Representative

Angus Davidson
What a year it has been - full of wondrous joy and finding out a lot about the school. I have learned a lot about myself as well - from being a part of the principal appointment process, to having a fun time with the ERO committee. The Board was very welcoming towards me and has treated me as though I was not just a student.

I would also like to thank the board for giving me an opportunity to go on the Spirit of Adventure at the beginning of the year. I learnt about how a Board of Trustees works whilst having a challenging experience! I met friends who were also BOT Reps and have stayed in contact with many of them.

The principal appointment process was a lifechanging experience; it showed me how hard it was in the big wide world and also how well known this school is with so many applicants to go through. The process that we went through was very efficient and we came out with the desired result. Other BOT Reps leave something for their school, I LEFT A PRINCIPAL …. Rawr! I am sure that Alex will do a very good job in taking over the role and will keep up the (well I hope I did) good work. He is very capable of taking on this position and will be comfortable in the board room. Good luck.

As for me, I am signing off for the brighter future full of fun, fun, fun and study. Thanks for all the support that people have given me over the year as BOT Rep.

Incoming Representative

Alex Black

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a bit about myself. I was originally born and bred in Suffolk in the English countryside. I attended Culford Primary School and was a prefect in my final year. I was then awarded an arts scholarship to Culford High School which
enabled me to be able to stay there. Culford has a reputation for being one of the best schools in the East of England.

Two years later I moved to New Zealand with my parents and have set up home in beautiful Lake Hawea. I enjoy skiing, cricket, art, photography and the beautiful scenery in and around Wanaka.

The Board of Trustees Student Representative is the student’s voice on the Board of Trustees which governs the activities of the school. I am proud to be able to say that I am the BOT Representative for Mount Aspiring College and I promise that you have made the right decision by voting me in. To be able to work in such a fantastic school with great students is truly a privilege on my part. I hope to offer my judgement and values to benefit the school and the Board.

I believe in the school’s motto of ‘Self Responsibility’ and I would like to add my personal values of ‘honesty, reliability, community spirit and individuality’. I always try to achieve my best in everything I do and I will make sure that this ethos will be carried into this job.

No issue is too small and no opinion is too insignificant if it matters to you. Every student has their own special contribution to make to the school and I think that we should exploit that.

I look forward to a year of working with the college board and students.

I look forward to a future of change. It is going to be a challenge to keep up with the high standard set by Angus, but I enjoy a challenge and look forward to it.
